Despite the weather, we had an awesome start to turkey season. The youth opener is by far my favorite hunt of the year, Mckenna seems to get more excited about it each season. With wind pushing 30+ mph, I wasn't super optimistic, but we decided to give it a go and sure glad we did. Scouting and finding birds the few day's before gave me the confidence to stick it out as long as we needed as we knew where they like to be. With all the wind birds were tight lipped but by 730 a single Tom snuck in and right back out without Mckenna getting a shot. About 30min later a hen popped out with the whole gang not far behind her. Before we knew it, we had 5-6 birds in the decoys (3 toms), bird's were moving all over but Mckenna stayed calm and picked one out as he stepped out from the others and made a great shot. Her best bird at 22.2 lbs, 11in beard and 1in spurs. Top it off, right after she got her bird, she lost a tooth, a reminder of how much she's growing!
